Safe SitterAccepting a baby-sitting job is a big responsibility. Babysitters need to be prepared for anything. That's where Safe Sitter® can help. Safe Sitter teaches adolescent baby sitters how to handle crises, how to keep their charges secure and how to nurture and guide young children. In the process, 11- to 14-year-olds become confident, responsible and compassionate teens.

Safe Sitter teaches baby sitters:

  • Basic first aid skills
  • CPR
  • How to change diapers
  • How to screen babysitting jobs to decide which ones to accept and which ones to refuse
  • How to talk to a 911 dispatcher

Sibshops

(260) 469-2777 (260) 469-2777

Sibshops, a program sponsored by Lutheran Children’s Hospital and Easter Seals Arc of Northeast Indiana, provides siblings of children with disabilities or special health issues an opportunity to meet in a relaxed setting to discuss common joys and concerns, to find out how others handle similar situations and to learn more about the implications of their siblings’ special needs. Children are encouraged to interact with and support their peers, who like them, are learning how to deal with the daily challenges associated with being the sibling of a child with special needs.

The class gives siblings an opportunity to express their feelings and arms them with tools and resources to help them deal with the situation at home. Sibshops focuses on the well-being of the family member most likely to have the longest-lasting relationship with a special-needs child.

Preregistration is required. The $10 fee covers materials, a T-shirt and lunch. Scholarships are available. Cost for children repeating the class is $5, which includes materials and lunch.
